About the Firm

Cerussi & Spring is AV Rated by Martindale Hubbell®. The firm’s diverse client base is comprised of national, international and regional businesses that value our commitment to efficiency, responsiveness, and individual attention to client needs. Our clients understand that in the vast majority of cases, being represented by an army of lawyers adds little, if any, value. Instead, a passionate defense team built around one or two smart, experienced lawyers, with a strategy grounded upon a solid understanding of the particular circumstances of each individual case, can generally achieve the best possible outcome in a cost-effective manner. By adhering to this focused approach, we have achieved a sophisticated national practice in products liability litigation. This practice includes serving as national coordinating counsel for a Fortune 100 company.

We also have a well-established local and regional practice in a variety of other practice areas, especially in construction accidents. We have defended against hundreds of Labor Law 240(1), 241(6) and 200 claims, and have been involved in dozens of appeals construing significant issues in these causes of action, including several precedent-setting cases by New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals. Our work in this area has also included the litigation of contractual and common law claims between the various parties (owners, general contractors, and subcontractors) for defense, contribution and indemnification.

We also have extensive experience defending all manner of premises liability claims, ranging from simple trip and falls through toxic exposures, assaults, rapes and homicides. We are well-versed in the various causes of action that may be brought in such litigations, and can effectively defend such claims, whether by contesting plaintiffs’ liability theories at trial or by pursuing other responsible parties.

We have a growing practice in employment law. While we can, of course, handle any litigation in this area, our primary role is to consult with our clients on the formulation of employment policies and practices. Strategically, our goal is to help our clients to avoid litigation in the first instance and, if unavoidable, to place them in the strongest possible position to defend against any claims.

We also maintain a historic and enthusiastic commitment to providing pro bono services. Our work with non-profit organizations ranges from legal counseling, corporate formation and governance to the protection of intellectual property. One representative non-profit client that we are proud to assist is the Mid-Fairfield Youth Hockey Association, Inc. (MFYHA) which is a Tier 1 AAA USA Hockey organization dedicated to the development and education of boys and girls looking to further their hockey skills, understand sportsmanship and learn other valuable life lessons. By helping non-profits like MFYHA deal with legal issues, our firm allows them to focus on what they do best: serving our community.

In all matters we provide quality representation using a lean and experienced staff that pays special attention to case assessment and candid analysis of the relative risks and rewards of litigation. Although we are ready, willing and able to litigate a case to verdict and beyond, we also understand that knowing whether and how to settle a case is critical to effectively serving the client’s interests. When the circumstances of a particular litigation call for it, we will devise innovative alternative approaches to best serve our clients’ needs, such as the property value protection program that we created and administered in order to efficiently resolve hundreds of claims in an environmental litigation while minimizing transaction costs. Our ultimate goal is always to maximize the value added by our involvement.
